Agape tops NMC-hosted volleyball tourney

Agape Volleyball Club ruled the Northern Marianas College Volleyball Club’s Thanks For Volleyball Tournament held last Monday at the Chamolinian Utt in Garapan.
Agape earned three wins in the 10-team single elimination competition to win the championship.
In its finals match against Young and Fresh, Agape prevailed by 8 points, 25-17. Earlier in the semis, Agape cruised past Ice Pack, 25-13, to set a title duel with Young and Fresh. Agape also defeated Ace, 25-13, in its first match.
Young and Fresh, on the other hand, marched into the finale after topping Ballania Hao in the quarterfinals, 15-5, and downing Ignite in the semis, 25-23.
In other results, Ignite battled Freeball in the quarterfinals and won, 25-22, to make it into the semis, while Ice Pack defeated Gobble Gobble, 25-20, to earn a Final Four seat.
Ballania Hao before bowing out of competition, topped NMC, 25-12, while Ace triumphed over Ms. Bree, 25-21.
Meanwhile, NMC Volleyball Club treasurer Wehilani Atalig said that the event turned out better than they expected despite this being their first time to host a competition.
“The event was actually really good. We had a few mishaps in the beginning, but it all worked out in the end. When I was going around, people said they actually enjoyed it more than they thought they would,” she said.
Atalig added that more than the competition, the event aimed to bring members of the community together and also raise funds for the newly established club.
“It wasn’t specifically for anything, we just kind of wanted to bring together the community for our first volleyball tournament because this is the first time that NMC had a volleyball club,” she said.
The club officials said that since NMC just formed its first-ever volleyball group, funds raised will be used to host future events.
“More tournaments, some specifically for NMC’s students and staff, and maybe also open to the public but we’re not too sure right now since we’re ending the semester,” Atalig said.
