CNMI students, do you want to see your artwork featured in a calendar?

If yes, pick up your art supplies and join the Marine Debris Program Art Contest of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration this year!

The artwork should show two things: first, how marine debris impacts the ocean, and second, what you are doing to help prevent marine debris.

All students from Kindergarten to Grade 8, public, private, and home schools are eligible to participate. Students must work individually.

Winning entries will be featured in NOAA’s 2021 Marine Debris Calendar which would help in the global campaign to raise awareness about marine debris.

NOAA defines marine debris as any persistent solid material that is manufactured or processed and directly or indirectly, intentionally or unintentionally, disposed of or abandoned into the marine environment.

Marine debris, in short, are man-made items that accidentally or deliberately ended up in the sea or the ocean.

Each entry must consist of the artwork and a description (on the entry form), and must meet the requirements outlined on the NOAA Marine Debris Program Annual Art Contest Entry Form.

The Program Art Contest is open until Nov. 30, 2019. Entries will be judged on creativity, artistic presentation, and relevance to the theme.

Artworks can be submitted to the office of the Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance along Middle Road in Garapan by Nov. 27, Wednesday. MINA will send the artworks to the NOAA Program headquarters in Maryland at no charge to you.

For more information, and to download the entry form, visit https://marinedebris.noaa.gov/outreach/artcontest.html.
