Camacho tops A Flight of Guam tourney

CNMI junior golfer Sebastian “Tiny” Camacho ruled the A Flight of the 27th Annual Governor’s Tourism Cup Championship Golf Tournament held at the LeoPalace Country Club in Guam last weekend.
The Grace Christian Academy student, who has been topping local tournaments in the past few years and represented the CNMI to the Pacific Games in Samoa last summer, prevailed in the A Flight of the Guam event after registering a two-day total of 164.
In Day 1 of the tournament, Camacho fired a 6-over 78 for a three-stroke lead against Iwanaga Mitsu. The junior golfer had a 38 on the front nine and 40 on the back.
On the second day of the competition, the CNMI golfer delivered an 86, built around his 45 in the first nine holes and 41 in the last. Camacho went on to win A Flight by six strokes against Markus Nanpel, who saved an 87 in the second round to go with his 83 and steal the runner-up honors from Mitsu. The Japanese settled for third place after recording a 91 in Round 2—way behind his 81 in the opening round. Uriah Perez (186), Amier Younis (189), Joel Hocog (199), and Ken Duenas (206) were the other competitors in the A Flight.
Camacho’s victory was his second of the season in the same class. He had his first A Flight triumph in 2019 during the 23rd Hyatt Regency Saipan Charity Golf Classic held at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort in April. Camacho carded a 3-over par 76 to win by three shots against Tim Goodwin.
The GCA junior also played in the 24th Governor’s Tournament of Champions on Saipan a couple of months ago and finished tied for third to fourth place with Freddy Salavaria after a two-day total of 167 to earn an invite to the Guam event.
In the Governor’s Tourism Cup, Camacho and the more than 100 golfers had a tougher time in the second round, as the tee boxes were moved farther to provide a greater challenge to participants.
