The Public School System aims to kick off the 2019-2020 Interscholastic Girls High School Basketball League on Nov. 14 at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

According to PSS Student Support Services Athletic Program director Nick Gross, the girls high school basketball season will start after the opening of the middle school girls volleyball competition.

“It’s just kind of a switch. High school sports will still be played every Tuesday and Thursday, while middle school sports will remain on Wednesday and we will be going full speed even though November is a difficult month with the amount of holidays,” Gross said.

Gross said that the high school girls basketball season should conclude by Dec. 10 with the double elimination tournament set for Jan. 10 and 11.

“We’ll come back, have a couple of make-up days for the first week or two in January if we need them, and we’ll do a double elimination tournament with Tinian and Rota schools around the 10th or 11th of January,” he added.

For the middle school girls volleyball season, Gross said that without any setbacks, the double-elimination playoffs will take place on Dec. 13 with Tinian and Rota expected to join the competition.

Also in the works, Gross said, are games for the boys. He said they are in the planning stages of the fast pitch softball, basketball, soccer, and hopefully swimming.

“We got some big plans. We want to get fastpitch softball going and some swimming stuff scheduled. We have a grant that was approved and we’re going to work on it for the different swim programs so we should have news about that in the near future,” Gross said.

PSS is also planning a co-ed volleyball in the elementary division.
