Missing girl found safe
A small Halloween scare was averted after the 13-year-old female child who was reported missing after trick-or-treating last Thursday was found last Friday. In a report from the Department of Public Safety, the child is with her family and in good spirits.
Saipan Tribune learned that the child was found at about 2:15pm on Friday and was returned home to her family. She was reportedly helping with trick-or-treating activities around her village. Police did not specify her age or why took several hours to track her down.
Word about the girl’s disappearance Thursday night spread over social media, but, with the community’s support, local authorities were able to locate the child in time.
DPS later issued a statement confirming that the child has been found and credited the help of its federal partners and the community for the many tips called in for successfully locating the child. DPS encourages the public to call 911 anytime to report of a crime or an emergency occurs.
This came soon after a report of a 7-year-old girl who was critically injured Thursday night after being hit by stray gunfire while she was trick-or-treating in Chicago.
The girl, who was shot in the upper chest area, was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, according to Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford. A 30-year-old man was shot in the left hand and taken to a nearby hospital in good condition.
A 15-year-old boy was charged Friday night with attempted murder.
The shooting occurred early Halloween evening as the girl was walking with her family and other trick-or-treaters along a street in the Little Village neighborhood.
Police believe the girl was an unintended victim. (With AP)
