November kickoff for middle school v-ball tourney
The Public School System is aiming to kick off the PSS Girls Middle School Volleyball League on Nov. 13 at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
According to PSS Athletics Program director Nick Gross, planning for the new season of the middle school competition has started after they completed the high school tournament two weeks ago.
“Although the girls high school volleyball has come to a close this month, volleyball is alive and well in the CNMI. This being said, I am in the planning phase of the girls middle school league set to kick off on Nov. 13,” he said.
Gross said that in an attempt to continue to build capacity, they are also looking for motivated, reliable individuals that are interested in officiating games in the league. Referees will be paid $10 every game, while those running the officials table will get $6 per match. Interested individuals must provide their own transportation to and from the games.
“Should you have players, coaches, PTA, or supporters that are interested in making some extra cash, please have them contact me. Experience is great, but not required as we can train motivated individuals. The most difficult part is ensuring that these individuals have reliable transportation and can be on-site by 4pm,” Gross said.
