Emergency water service interruption

There is an emergency water service interruption in the Chalan Laulau area for Commonwealth Utilities Corp. customers on Chalan Pale Arnold Road from the traffic light intersection (near the old Payless ShoeSource) to the IT&E commercial building.
The cause of the water service interruption is due to a 16-inch distribution waterline leak on the northbound outer lane.
The repair work is expected to be completed today, Oct. 30, 2019, at 8am. Customers in the affected areas should expect restoration of water service soon after.
For the safety of the men and women working at the site, motorists are advised to proceed with caution and take alternative routes when traveling by the area.

CHamoru commission meeting set

More Guam tax refunds out this week

HAGATNA, Guam—The Department of Revenue & Taxation and the Department of Administration will mail this week about 470 tax refund checks totaling approximately $ 1.2 million, including refunds garnished to repay government debts, for error- free returns filed on or before May 4, 2019. US military to sets trainings

SANTA RITA, Guam—The U.S. Navy will conduct training on Oct. 31 from 7am to 7pm at the island of Farallon de Medinilla.
This training supports aircrew combat readiness and is critical to developing the skills needed to respond to operational missions throughout the region to ensure a stable, free, and open Indo-Pacific.
The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be within a 12-nautical-mile radius of the island.
The Navy will also conduct training today, Oct. 30, from 7am to 4pm at Warning Area 517.
W-517 begins south of Guam and extends south-southwest in international waters. Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Banks remain open.
U.S. Naval Base Guam Security Forces will conduct training tomorrow, Oct. 31, in outer Apra Harbor, from 9am to 1pm. It is recommended the public, fishermen, and marine tour operators monitor the U.S. Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories.
These types of trainings are designed to enhance the readiness of military personnel. Residents in surrounding areas should not be alarmed if they see or hear increased activity associated with the training. (PR)

SHRM meeting today Oct. 30

The Society for Human Resource Management NMI Chapter will have its membership meeting today, Oct. 30, 2019, at the Pacific Islands Club Saipan’s Charley’s Cabaret beginning at 11am. It will feature Public School System Cooperative Education program coordinator Brandon Nicholas and Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence executive director Maisie Tenorio. This meeting is open to the public.

Golf tournament fundraiser for JKPL

The 4th Annual Friends of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library Golf Tournament Fundraiser will take place on Sunday, Nov. 10, at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort’s west course. Game format is Low Gross and Double Peoria, 2-Person Scramble (Men and Women). Cost to participate is $200 entry per team. All proceeds will help support the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library and its resource and collection development, circulation materials, and library programs. Saipan to host terrestrial conservation conference

The 3rd Annual Marianas Terrestrial Conservation Conference & Workshop will be held on Nov. 18-20, at the Hibiscus Hall of Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan in Garapan. Registration is free and open to the public, and will include presentations on terrestrial conservation, field trips and activities such as pre-conference proa rides and Mariana swiftlet field trip, and a lizard identification trip at American Memorial Park.
