4 students named winners in ‘My Hero’ contest

From over 100 entries, two students from public schools and two from private schools were named winners in the “My Hero” contest of the Commonwealth Health Care Corp.’s Crisis Counseling Program.
The names of the winners—selected from the elementary, middle, and high school levels—were announced during last Saturday’s Resiliency Fest.
The Crisis Counseling Program received over 100 entries from all grade levels for the contest.
Grace Christian Academy 2nd grade student Joaquin Torres was selected as the winner of the drawing contest in the elementary level, while Chacha Oceanview Middle School 8th grade student Leanalyn Jane Reyes was selected for the middle school level.
GCA 9th grade student Anthony Deleon Guerrero and Marianas High School 11th grade student Victoria Dela Cruz were selected as the winners of the high school writing contests.
Students were challenged to recognize the most important person who taught them what it means to triumph over adversity. Each student was tasked to draw a picture of write a personal story about a person who helped them become more resilient after Super Typhoon Yutu, which hit Saipan and Tinian last October 2018.
The contest was inspired by the United Nations’ International Day for Disaster Reduction, which was recognized on Oct. 9 in the CNMI, and the Crisis Counseling Program wanted to tie that to the one-year anniversary of Super Typhoon Yutu on Oct. 24.
