Brilliant Star shines in All Schools Cross-Country

Brilliant Star School came out on top of the elementary school division competition in the 2019 All Schools Cross-Country Championships held last Saturday at the Saipan Country Club.
Brilliant Star swept the boys and girls overall titles in the elementary division that featured student-runners in the U7, U9, and U12 age groups. It scored 20 points in the boys category to prevail against Saipan Community School (24), Saipan International School (26), Agape Christian School (28), Mt. Carmel School (45), and San Vicente Elementary School (66).
Overall winners in the elementary divisions were determined by awarding points to schools based on how their students finished in the 1.5-kilometer race (one lap). Only the Top 5 runners from each school received points and the school with the least points was declared the winner.
In the girls elementary, BSS collected 16 points to win first place honors. SIS took second place with 20 points, followed closely by Agape with 21 points, while San Vicente was ranked fourth with 52 points.
In the individual winners list, BSS’ Shana Barman bagged the gold in the girls U7 age group after finishing the race in 5:46. San Vicente’s Jayanna Reyes got the silver after timing in at 6:35, while SIS’ Leilani Ruszala notched the bronze with her 6:59.
In the boys U7, Tinian Elementary School’s Hun Yeong Seo submitted 5:43 to earn the gold, while SIS’s Jude Rayphand (5:44) and BSS’ Kanoa Owens (6:05) rounded out the Top 3.
In the girls U9 age group, BSS’ Sari Barman recorded 5:08 to win the gold medal, while SIS’ Suki Peng (5:37) and SCS’ Allie Brasuell (5:45) secured the silver and bronze, respectively. In the boys division, SIS took the bragging rights with Fin Altizer finishing the course in 5:13, while BSS’ Akeen Edvaison (5:33.06) and SCS’ Patrick McDonald (5:33.93) completed the Top 3.
For the boys U12 age group, Moshe Sikkel handed BSS a first place finish after recording 4:38 and beating Tanapag Middle School’s Wataru Kadokura (4:45) and SCS’ David Ye (4:53). In the girls division, Agape had two runners making it to the Top 3 with Barbara Wang getting the gold with her 4:38 and Jiayi Crystal Ye (5:26) earning the bronze. BSS’s Fiona Regan (5:22) won the silver.
