Black Panther, The As’ Guardians in semis

The Black Panther and The As’ Guardians marched into the winners bracket semifinals of the Avengers Volleyball League after beating their respective opponents last Friday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The Black Panther was paired against We Are Groot and needed three sets to prevail and move one win away from making it to the finals. The Black Panther took the first set, 25-17, while We Are Groot averted an early loss after stealing the second, 25-14. In the deciding third set, the Black Panther triumphed in a close match, 15-12, to set up a duel with The As’ Guardians for the first finals berth in the double-elimination playoffs.
The As’ Guardians also earned a tough victory against Ol’Aces, coming out on top in the first set, 27-25, but missing the sweep when the latter eked out a 26-24 win in the second. Then in the third set, the match was won by only two points anew with The As’ Guardians pulling off a 16-14 victory.
The Black Panther and The As’ Guardians will dispute the first finals ticket tonight at 8pm with the winner not only moving into the title game, but also having a twice-to-beat advantage in the championship round.
Meanwhile, the Ol’Aces and We Are Groot dropped to the losers bracket and must beat their respective foes to remain in contention. The Ol’Aces will face Iron Spike tonight, while We Are Groot will take on Straight Outta Knowhere.
Iron Spike is still in the race following its victory in three sets against The Revenger’s. Iron Spike got the better of its opponent in the first set, 25-23, before losing the second set, 23-25. A 15-11 triumph in the third set kept Iron Spike in the tournament and eliminated The Revengers.
In other results in the losers bracket, Straight Outta Knowhere ousted the D’Challengers after recording a sweep, 25-14, 25-16.
