DPS arrests alleged robbery suspect
Police of the CNMI Department of Public Safety apprehended 30-year-old Michael Jordan Palacios Cabrera last Thursday at his home in Chalan Kanoa, soon after DPS issued a “wanted” notice against him for allegedly robbing and injuring a woman behind the Shun Fu Market in Gualo Rai last Tuesday.

Police had gone to the victim’s home in response to a 911 call at about 3:42pm last Tuesday.
At the scene, officers met with the victim who was bleeding from her head and claimed that she was feeling a burning sensation around her face after the suspect sprayed her with a liquid substance. Medics were summoned to the scene and the victim was brought to the Commonwealth Health Center for treatment on two lacerations on her head. The wounds were closed using five staples.
Police detectives learned that the victim was in her home with the front door closed but left unlocked, when a man wearing a dark-colored hat, a pair of dark sunglasses, and a white tank top suddenly entered the house. The suspect sprayed the victim in the face with liquid substance and repeatedly hit her with an unknown object, resulting in the victim falling to the ground and the suspect running off with the victim’s purse and cellphone.
Detectives later obtained video surveillance footage from a nearby establishment and it showed a man matching the description provided by the victim holding an orange object on one hand and a brown purse on the other. It then showed that the suspect fled the scene on a silver Hyundai Elantra.
Cabrera was immediately identified in the video from previous criminal cases. A still image of the suspect was shown to the victim for identification, and the victim was able to identify the male individual in the image as the same suspect who committed the robbery.
Last Wednesday, at about 9:32pm, Superior Court Associate Judge Teresa K. Kim-Tenorio signed and authorized the arrest warrant for Cabrera on the charges of burglary and theft, assault and battery, and assault with a dangerous weapon, with a cash bail set at $30,000.
DPS detectives arrested Cabrera at his house on Thursday, Oc. 17, 2019, at about 4:19pm. He was later transported to the Department of Corrections where he was booked and detained.
