Tropical disturbance could affect CNMI next week
A tropical disturbance could affect the Marianas by early next week.
The U.S National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam reported yesterday that a tropical disturbance forming southeast of Majuro will move west-northwest and would eventually head toward the Marianas by early next week.
This disturbance will bring showers to the Marshall Islands through Thursday, then on to Kosrae and Pohnpei by Friday. The models show that the disturbance will head west-northwest through this weekend.
In addition, the NWS reported a tropical disturbance west of the Marianas that is right now the subject of a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center.
That means it could develop into a tropical storm within the next 24 hours, but this disturbance currently poses no threat for the Marianas or west Micronesia as it could move away from the islands in the region.
NWS also reports that a monsoon pattern has been brewing for several days with a trough situated just north of Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae. A weak circulation was located northeast of Pohnpei. Numerical model forecasts indicate little or no development of the circulation in the coming days, meaning no threats to the CNMI with this monsoon pattern.
