Mt. Carmel, FMS triumph

Mt. Carmel School made it two in a row, while Francisco M. Sablan Middle School recovered from its season debut loss, as games in the 2019 NMIFA Interscholastic Soccer League resumed last Friday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field.
The Knights topped Saipan International School, 3-1, for a fitting follow-up on their 7-1 triumph over FMS during the ISL opening week last Oct. 4. FMS also played last Friday at the other half of the pitch and battled back from the defeat to Mt. Carmel with a 6-2 victory against Hopwood Middle School 1.
Markus Toves scored six goals to power Mt. Carmel to a 2-0-0 win-draw-loss record early this season. The striker had a pair in their victory over SIS, making his first one in the ninth minute and the second in the 41st minute. Miles Linden posted the other goal for the Knights, as he closed out for the winning team in the 49th minute. The Geckos, on the other hand, drew their lone goal from Jeff Kim, who found the back of the net in the 51st minute.
Versus FMS, Toves had a hat trick early in the first half after hitting his target in the seventh, 18th, and 23rd minute and then added one more in the second half (47th minute). Devin Propst chipped in a brace with his goals in the sixth and 43rd minute, while Mark Chavez contributed one (50th minute).
FMS got its only goal in its loss to Mt. Carmel from Mark Joseph Roque.
Roque then towed FMS to victory over Hopwood 1 when he registered three goals in last weekend’s game. His twin brother, Mark Joshua, also made it to the board and FMS’ two other goals came from Frank Basa and Monico Claridades. Jurvin Bisek logged the pair of goals for Hopwood 1.
Meanwhile, Hopwood 2 forced a draw against SIS in the Hilitais’ season debut early this month.
Pritom Sannyashi drilled the equalizer for Hopwood 2 after scoring in the 47th minute, while Kristopher Pascual delivered the other goal for the Hilitais in the 24th minute.
The Geckos had to settle for a draw in their first game of the season despite taking a 2-1 lead at the break. Allen Cho put SIS on the board in the 10th minute, while Chung posted the second goal 11 minutes later.
