Over 300 students qualify for cross-country finale

The 2019 All Schools Cross- Country Championships will be held this Friday with more than 300 students racing at the Saipan Country Club.

The Public School System and Northern Marianas Athletics, which are co-organizing this year’s cross-country events, will kick off the finale at 3:30pm. The championship will feature 306 students who qualified for this weekend’s race after competing in one of the three preliminary runs. Qualifiers will compete in the U7, U9, U12, U14, and U18 age groups with Tinian and Rota expected to join Saipan students in the finale.

The U12, U9, and U7 divisions’ course will cover approximately 1.5 kilometers (one-lap race), while U14 runners will run around 3 kilometers (two laps). Students in the U18 division will have the longest run—a 4.5-kilometer course (three laps).

The U7 division has 24 female participants and 28 male, while the U9 division will see 22 female runners and 16 male.

For the U12 division, 18 will compete in the the girls race and 31 in the boys, while the U14 division draws 28 female qualifiers and 26 male. The U18 division has the most participants with 51 female runners and 62 male.

The number of participants does not include the Tinian and Rota representatives.
