Getting the most out of T.O.A.S.T.
T.O.A.S.T. – Timeless Old Age Senior Tales
TOAST – is a sonnet series; an old age roast
TOAST – a daily morning bread
TOAST – a drink to honor someone’s head
TOAST – you are done with it, it is dead.
She Knows When the Rooster Crows
My wife said do you hear the rooster crowing
I do but can’t see outside it is still very dark
get up though its time for sowing and growing
rise up and soar with the morning meadow lark.
Venus is shining brightly in the Eastern sky
a pair of pure white chungé birds just flew by
maybe the rooster is crowing about love past
and all the biddy hens that he can remember
our love seems strong enough that it will last
as we grow old, cold, and snowy like December
I know you still love and care for me she said
I love the sonnet you wrote about us yesterday
so rest a little longer and come back to bed
like rooster and hen we crow, cackle, and play.
Elegy for an Unseen Senior Selfie
“Wherever there is life, there must be death,
sooner or later we’ll breathe our last breath.”
—Chinese poet Tao Qian (365-427), Six Dynasties
These days people know we are alive by reading our posts
where in the world is my senior SELFIE being seen so far away
when we are not on line we become like cyber ghosts
if its not DELETEd repeatedly on line how long will it stay.
Facebook friends show themselves and family on vacation
with some gain, some loss of privacy, if I don’t see I can’t care
deleting presence of others after assessing each situation
my phone and PC are off line so now no button to SHARE.
Thousands of MEMES, posts and REPLYs will pass away
music from guitars, vinyl records and old radio transistors
along with offline memories of friends yesterday and today
acoustic, baroque, and classical music brothers and sisters.
Cyber space is filled with meaningful and nonsense MEMES
SELFIES get lost and then forgotten in our real life daydreams.
