Indigenous Cultural Expo postponed
The community would have to wait up until November for the celebration of the Indigenous Cultural Expo.
The expo, which is supposed to be held today at the Civic Center in Susupe as part of the celebration of Commonwealth Cultural Day, had to be postponed until next month due to unavailability of natural materials and supplies needed for the demonstrators.
This is given the recent Super Typhoon Hagibis that hit the island Monday evening.
This decision was made in a meeting Friday among representatives of the Indigenous Affairs Office, the Carolinian Affairs Office, the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, and the Marianas Visitors Authority.
The expo will showcase seafaring traditions, traditional food and medicines (with free tastings), traditional coconut products and usage, native agricultural techniques, free bull cart rides, cultural performances, and language and culture.
Members of the community will also be able to join and enjoy a traditional fiesta (communal feast) where traditional food such as root crops, roast pigs, beef, cooked fish, and others will be served.
