$1M expenditure bill for Tinian is enacted

A Tinian and Aguiguan Legislative Delegation bill that divvies up $1 million 2019 annual Casino License Fee among several Tinian projects has been enacted.
Rep. Antonio Borja’s (R-Tinian) House Local Bill 21-31, D1, which seeks to appropriate a total of $1 million of the 2019 annual Casino License renewal fee, is now law after Gov. Ralph DLG Torres enacted it last Oct. 3.
Majority of the $1 million is allocated to the Tinian Mayor’s Office, specifically for personnel, operations, public programs, and professional services, including the Tinian Municipal Treasury and the Tinian Casino Gaming Control Commission.
Including $50,000 set aside for the Tinian Mayor’s Office discretionary account, the office was allocated a total of $920,000. The expenditure authority is the Tinian Mayor’s Office.
Operational costs for Tinian and Aguiguan are allocated $50,000 for the legislative delegation’s expenditure and the remaining $30,000 is allocated to the Tinian Municipal Scholarship. The expenditure authority ius the delegation chairman, Sen. Jude U. Hofschneider (R-Tinian).
The legislation now goes into the records as Tinian Local Law 21-07.
The governor also enacted last Oct. 3, 2019, Rep. Ivan A. Blanco’s (R-Saipan) House Local Bill 21-28, S1, D6. The legislation appropriates funds collected from the same source, the 2019 annual Casino License renewal fee.
The legislation appropriated $3 million from the fund toward repairs of Public School System campuses on Saipan, including a total of $250,000 that will go specifically to the Adm. Herbert G. Hopwood Middle School.
Other projects funded on Saipan include ongoing road improvement projects, the Saipan Mayor’s Office, the Northern Islands Mayor’s Office, the Joeten Kiyu Public Library, the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance program, and both the Carolinian Affairs Office and the Indigenous Affairs Office.
