JKPL closed until further notice
Due to water/electrical damage caused by Super Typhoon Hagibis, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library will be closed until further notice. The closure is necessary to ensure the safety of our community and staff alike. We are currently working on rectifying the problem. We apologize for any inconvenience and we ask for the community’s patience and understanding. All library materials due during our closure will be waived. (PR)
Join the Marianas Writers’ movement
The second in a series of workshops about planning your novel is set for today, Oct. 11, 2019, from 3pm to 5pm, at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library. It is free and open to anyone age 13 and older. You do not have to attend all workshops, so if you missed the first one, it is not too late. This project is part of the “Rekindling Marianas Narratives: Write Your Novel!” mini-grant program and is made possible by support from the Northern Marianas Humanities Council, a non-profit, private corporation funded in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities. (PR)
Public square rosary crusade
In celebration of the 102nd anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima, the public is invited to join the 2019 Public Square Rosary Rally on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 11:30am to 1pm, at the Minachom Atdao pavilion, Beach Road, Susupe. The actual rosary rally starts at noon. The miracle of the sun took place in Fatima on Oct. 13,1917. This is the ninth year that Dr. Celia Lamkin will be the rosary rally captain. The first one was held in front of the Mount Carmel Cathedral in Susupe. (PR)
Language commission board meeting
The Chamorro/Carolinian Language Policy Commission will be holding its annual board meeting on Saturday, Oct.r 12, 2019, from 10am to 12pm, at the Office on Aging Center’s conference room in Garapan. Interested individuals are invited to attend. Agenda will be provided at the meeting. (PR)
Club 200 now on Nov. 9
Due to the impact of Typhoon Hagibis on the community, the American Red Cross-NMI Chapter has postponed its Club 200 fundraiser to Nov. 9, a Saturday. It was originally scheduled to take place this Saturday.
NAP extends services
Due to the effects of Super Typhoon Hagibis, the Nutrition Assistance Program is extending the benefit distribution and re-certification services up to 6pm on Oct. 11 for those with case records ending with ‘5’, ‘6’, ‘7’, ‘8’, and ‘9.’ For more information, contact the NAP office at 237-2842 or 237-2843 or visit its Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/nap.cnmi. FOA forms youth choir
Katie Hoyt welcomes anyone ages 12-17 to join the Friends of the Arts Youth Choir. The cost to join is free. The group meet Tuesdays, from 6pm to 7:30pm in Dandan at Hoyt’s home. Public invited to USNBG Fire Prevention Week open house
SANTA RITA, Guam—The public is invited to the U.S. Naval Base Guam Fire and Emergency Services Fire Prevention Week Open House tomorrow, Oct. 12, from 10am to 2pm, at the NBG Fire Station 6.
Fire Station 6 is located off base next to the Navy Federal Credit Union. No military ID or visitor pass is required.
Fire Prevention Week is a national campaign that runs Oct. 6-12 and this year’s theme is “Not every hero wears a cape. Plan and practice your escape!”
The event will also feature face painting, a photo booth, a mannequin pull, static displays and a children’s firefighting course. (PR)
CWA to host FUN-Raise-Her on Nov. 22
Tickets are now on sale for the Women’s “FUN-Raise-Her” dinner, sponsored by the CNMI Women’s Association, a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower women for leadership through education and training opportunities.
The event will be held at the Hibiscus Hall, Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, on Friday, Nov. 22, from 6pm to 9pm. All are welcome.
For $75 per ticket, guests will be treated to dinner and drinks, live music, and giveaways.
