CHC resumes regular operations
As soon as the “All Clear” was declared on Saipan and Tinian yesterday, the Commonwealth Health Care Corp. announced that the Commonwealth Health Center’s clinics will resume regular business hours.
Last Tuesday, CHCC reported that it will only be opening its hemodialysis and chemotherapy units and its administrative offices and clinical services, Women’s Clinic, Children’s Clinic, Family Care Clinic, WIC Clinic, Dental Clinic, and Physical Therapy units were to remain closed.
In a statement, CHCC thanked the community for their patience and resilience as the Northern Marianas weathered Super Typhoon Hagibis, but quickly pointed out that the CNMI is still at risk for dengue, considering the outbreaks in the Pacific region. CHCC urges the public to remain vigilant and take steps to protect themselves against mosquito bites.
The increased amount of rain and debris blown around by the typhoon may have resulted in an increased number of mosquito breeding areas around the island. CHCC says that it is important to clean up and dump out any debris that hold water as soon as possible to eliminate breeding areas and to take additional steps through its “Fight the Bite” initiative:
-Use EPA-approved insect repellents when outside and follow product instructions/re-apply;
-Make sure windows and doors have screens that do not have holes and fix any holes in screens to ensure that mosquitoes can’t get in; and
-Cover up by wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants when possible.
CHCC also advises those who experienced an injury during Super Typhoon Hagibis or from cleaning up debris in its aftermath, especially a puncture wound, to see a doctor to ensure proper care.
