HAGIBIS UPDATES
District Court reopens today
The U.S. District Court for the NMI was still closed yesterday due to Super Typhoon Hagibis but will reopen today, Wednesday, at 10am.
Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona issued yesterday the second order regarding court closure due to Hagibis, which developed into a super typhoon Monday night.
The electronic filing system remained online.
The judge said the eye of Hagibis passed north of Saipan late Monday night and that damaging tropical storm force winds are expected to continue to affect Saipan throughout yesterday.
As of yesterday, Saipan was still on Typhoon Condition 1.
The District Court was closed Monday and was supposed to open yesterday.
With respect to the CNMI Judiciary, it remained closed yesterday. It will re-open today, Wednesday. (Ferdie de la Torre)
NMC classes cancelled yesterday
Classes at the Northern Marianas College that were scheduled for yesterday, Oct. 8, were canceled. NMC offices will also be closed on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, to allow emergency response personnel to conduct assessments. (PR)
Banks reopen
The Saipan and Tinian branches of the Bank of Guam will reopen today, Oct. 9. The bank’s Guam branches reopened at 11am yesterday, while its Rota branch reopened at 10am. (PR)
Bank of Hawaii’s Gualo Rai Branch remains closed yesterday. It said the bank will continue to assess the status of its Saipan branch, and will update the public on branch closures and reopenings as Hagibis continues on its path. Call Center operations, based in Kapolei, Oahu, remain open to assist customers. Online and mobile banking services will continue to operate unless power interruptions are experienced. (PR)
NOTAM lifted
The NOTAM (notice to airmen) for the Saipan Air Traffic Control Tower was lifted yesterday. With that, the Air Traffic Control Tower at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport was already available to receive traffic. As of press time, Jeju, T’WAY and United Airlines were set to resume flight operations. No other updates have been received. Star Marianas Air will be resuming its operations today, Oct. 9, 2019. (PR)
USPS closed yesterday
The U.S. Postal Service was closed yesterday. There was no mail delivery or pickup from its blue collection boxes or mail slots. In an announcement yesterday, it said that the Postal Service’s decisions regarding the resumption of services will be guided by information and directives issued by local public safety officials. USCIS Guam, Saipan offices closed yesterday
The offices of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in Guam was closed all day yesterday. Same with USCIS office in Garapan on Saipan, which remained closed. Those who have interview or biometric appointments scheduled for Tuesday will be notified of new appointment dates.
