CUC pulverizes Coca-Cola
Commonwealth Utilities, Corp. crushed Coca-Cola, 90-43, in the second match of the 2018 JP World Corp. Customer Appreciation Basketball League last Tuesday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.
CUC wasted no time in dominating Coca-Cola, as it posted a 31-19 lead in the first half. Despite the double-digit lead, CUC was not done yet, as it hammered Coca Cola in the third quarter after sizzling for 37 points for a huge 69-25 lead.
Eugene Manglona led CUC’s demolition of Coca-Cola in the third period after recording 14 points, while Ray Pestillos added 8.
Manglona finished with a game-high 31 points, making up for his 2-point output in the first quarter that ended with CUC ahead by just 9 points, 18-9. Manglona then began hitting his target in the second period, as he scored CUC’s first 10 points and matched Coca-Cola’s total production for the their 12-point advantage at the break.
Frederick Dionisio, Pestillos, and John Santos also helped give CUC the upper hand in the first half, as they combined for 14 points.
The trio still contributed some points in the third period, while Coca-Cola was held to 6 markers off two field goals to hand the victory to CUC with still one full quarter to go. Melvin Capalad and Mark Nuique scored the only two baskets for Coca-Cola in the penultimate frame.
Despite getting the sure win, CUC did not allow Coca-Cola an inch of redemption, as the former still outgunned the latter in the fourth period, 21-18.
