DOC officer is arrested for ‘ice’ possession
DOC lieutenant facing DUI
A Department of Corrections officer was arrested Tuesday night for alleged possession of methamphetamine, while a Corrections lieutenant is facing a traffic case for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol and other charges.
Saipan Tribune opted to withhold the name of the corrections officer in the drug case for the meantime until he is formally taken before the court.
In the traffic case, court documents show that Corrections Lt. Frederick Kotomar Billy is being charged with DUI, improper U-turn, accident, and reckless driving.
Billy heads the Department of Corrections Internal Affairs.
In the drug case, Saipan Tribune learned from sources that Drug Enforcement Task Force members arrested the corrections officer for possession of methamphetamine Tuesday night, but subsequently released him as the task force and the Office of the Attorney General were still trying to complete documents needed for a court hearing.
Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds confirmed yesterday that an initial appearance hearing for the corrections officer may likely be held today, Friday.
No other details were available surrounding the officer’s arrest as of yesterday.
A source said a small amount of methamphetamine was involved in the case.
In Billy’s case, he appeared for his scheduled arraignment last Sept. 5 at 9am before Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja.
Naraja found Billy not eligible for court-appointed counsel and ordered him to hire his private attorney.
Naraja continued the arraignment for Oct. 10 at 9am.
Assistant attorney general Jonathan Robert Glass Jr. is handling the case.
According to a traffic citation/complaint issued by police officer E. Ogumoro, the DUI incident involving Billy happened along Isa Drive on Capital Hill last July 21.
Billy was driving a black 2017 Toyota vehicle.
The Department of Public Safety has yet to release information about the incident.
