The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials recognized the Commonwealth Health Care Corp.’s Grants Management Office last September with a first-place award in the Category B of ASTHO’s Vision Awards.
CHCC GMO administrator Vince Camacho and CHCC chief executive officer Esther Muña received the ASTHO Vision Award last Sep. 25 in Bethesda, Maryland.
ASTHO recognizes exemplary state and territorial health programs that demonstrate creative and innovative approaches to addressing local health jurisdiction needs and challenges.
The purpose of the Vision Awards is to provide peer recognition for state and territorial health programs, and to promote awareness and replication of successful state and territorial health programs and initiatives.
To be eligible to apply for a Vision award, a program or initiative must be administered by a state or territorial health agency like CHCC and have been operational for at least one year. CHCC submitted its application before the deadline last May and competed in Category B of the Vision Awards, a category for programs with budgets of less than $250,000.
The CHCC GMO was established in 2016 and Muña’s initial vision was for the office to function as and oversight office for all CHCC grant programs to ensure compliance with audit requirements and federal regulations. However, during the program’s activation, it was realized that the office would function much more effectively as a coordination center for all CHCC program interactions with CHCC accounting, grantor agencies, and other related parties. This led to more efficient processing and monitoring of all program activities. The GMO has developed new policies and procedures for grants management and has assisted CHCC finance in helping to respond to audit findings and reduce questioned costs over the past three years.
The GMO looks forward to implementing more system improvements in collaboration with CHCC administration and programs.
