17 PSS students earn distinctions as AP Scholar Awardees

Seventeen Public School System students mastered the skills, concepts, and content necessary to earn the prestigious Advanced Placement Scholar Awards, which were based on the 2019 AP exams administered in May. The College Board’s AP program provides students the opportunity to earn college credit through rigorous college-level work in high school.
The College Board recognizes four levels of achievement based on student performance and AP exams. The highest level of academic distinction is National AP Scholar, followed by AP Scholar with Distinction, AP Scholar with Honor, and AP Scholar.
Five students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average score of 3.5 or higher on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. The honorees include Cole Chambers, Tian En Chen, Dai Podziewksi, Jonah Pohl, and Marielle Sambilay.
Twelve students were awarded the AP Scholar honor by earning a score of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. Recipients include Natalie Montano, Mica Camacho, Shea Hartig, Yi Huang, Kate Ishida, Seung Ju Lee, Ruoxiang Lu, Nicole Mascarinas, Philip Lorenz Punzalan, Xue Zhe Qui, Mimi Sakano, and Emma Timmons.
Last May, 520 CNMI PSS Advanced Placement students combined to take a total 602 AP exams across various subject areas: English Language & Composition, English Literature & Composition, Calculus, Chemistry, Statistics, Computer Science, U.S. Government & Politics, Psychology, and World History. About 22 percent of the 2.2 million students worldwide who took AP exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.
The CNMI Public School System congratulates these students on their exceptional achievements and wishes continued success to those who have graduated from high school. PSS looks forward to continued academic celebrations for students who are currently taking AP courses this school year. (PR)
