Connie’s BBQ moved to solo second place in the team standings in the 2019 One Pacific Promotional Basketball League after rallying past Saipan Adventure, 64-59, during a make-up game last Friday at the Civic Center Court.

Connie’s now has an 8-2 record, just one victory behind the league-leading Tsingtaon Boyz (9-2) and slightly ahead of Mawati (7-3), Pardz Ballers (7-4), and Saipan Adventure (7-4). Teams that will place in the Top 2 after the round-robin regular season will be paired against the last two squads that will make it to the playoffs.

Saipan Adventure seemed to be heading up the rankings, as it dominated Connie’s BBQ in the first half, leading by as much as 16, 40-24. However, Connie’s worked its way back into the game in the second half to steal the win.

Connie’s cut the deficit to single digit after the third period, 39-46, as it held Saipan Adventure to 6 points. Darwin Barbo, Ronald Esmores, and Nelson Cabang teamed up in bringing Connie’s back into contention as they scored 5 points each in the third frame.

Then in the fourth canto, Connie’s managed to overtake Saipan Adventure after scoring 25 points—the former’s best output in a quarter. Barbo and Kerwin Dayao scored 7 points apiece in the fourth frame, outgunning the entire Saipan Adventure team that was limited to 13 markers.

Dayao and Barbo both finished in twin digits with the former recording 14 points and the latter adding 12. Dayao had two triples in the fourth canto and Lawrence Deleon Guerrero drilled two more treys, while Saipan Adventure made only one from the parking lot in the final frame.

Alvin Almario had 21 markers for Saipan Adventure.

Connie’s BBQ 64—Dayao 14, Barbo 12, Deleon Guerrero 10, Cabang 10, Esmores 9, DelaCruz 4, Bongacan 3, Centina 2.
Saipan Adventure 59—Almario 21, Flores 11, Verdeflor 9, Mungcal 8, Morales 8, Ocampo 2.
Scoring by quarters: 13-22, 24-40, 39-46, 64-59.
