Military trainings set

SANTA RITA, Guam—The Guam Army National Guard I-294th Infantry Regiment will conduct training on Oct. 5-6 at Radio Barrigada, from 7am to 12pm.

Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 will conduct training on Oct. 1-3, from 11am to 11:55pm, at the Dandan-Malojloj training site in Inarajan.

The U.S. Navy will conduct training at Warning Area 517, Warning Area 12, Warning Area 11 Alpha Bravo, and an alternative site during the following dates and times: 

• From midnight to 11:59pm, Sept. 30 through Oct. 6 at W-517 and W-12
• From 6am to 7pm, Oct. 1-2, at the alternative site 
• From midnight to 11:59pm, Oct. 1-2 ,at W-11AB

W-517 is activated. It begins south of Guam and extends south-southwest in international waters. W-517 supports surface and aerial gunnery, missiles, and laser exercises.

All vessels are advised to remain 100 nautical-miles outside of the training areas.

Galvez Banks and Santa Rosa Reef will be closed for the duration of training.

It is recommended the public, fishermen and marine tour operators monitor the Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories. (PR)

Navy underwater training
The U.S. Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 5 will conduct routine underwater detonation training on Oct. 3, from 8am to 4pm Oct. 2 and from 8am to 5pm at the coordinates 13˚27.42’’N/144˚38.30’’E in outer Apra Harbor.

EODMU-5 will detonate a total of five lbs of explosives at the designated location on a sandy area of the sea floor.

For the safety of the public and participants involved, the U.S. Coast Guard will establish safety zones to restrict access in the vicinity of the training area. 

EODMU-5 performs routine underwater detonation training to develop the skills needed to be ready to rapidly respond to operational missions and unexploded ordnance support in Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. 

The Navy conducted a multi-year environmental analysis, which the National Marine Fisheries Service, under the Marine Mammal Protection Act and Endangered Species Act, granted the Navy authorization to conduct underwater detonation training. The Navy is a committed environmental steward and employs protective measures to safeguard marine resources.

For the safety of personnel and marine life, the area will be visually cleared by divers and by lookouts on the surface before, during, and after the exercise. All activity will cease temporarily, if a person or marine life is seen in the area. (PR)
