Song leads PIC Point Break winners

Chisu Song was among the top performers in the 13th Annual Pacific Islands Club International Point Break Championship held last Saturday at PIC.

Song ruled the men’s pro flowboard division after collecting 49.9 points in the finals. He won over PIC’s Keoni Ichihara (47.6) and Thomas Reyes (47.5). Song advanced to the championship round after dominating Norjay Hipolito in the semis, 51.4-33.6, while Ichihara prevailed over Cody Leon, 45.3-31.8, and Reyes downed Ryuta Onuki, 45, 42.5.

In the women’s pro flowboard division, Jin Ji An edged Se Young Kim, 41.4-41.2 to notch the championship. Rounding out the Top 3 was Song Kyung Cho, who registered 38.7 points.

There was also a close battle in the finals of the pro mix bodyboard division with Min Kyu Ryou registering 45 points to beat Ho Cheul Jae (43.5). In third place was Do Hyun Kim, who marked 42. 1 points.

In the open bodyboard division, Wynn Brillo and Se Young Kim were the top finishers. Brillo logged 41.8 points in the men’s event to win over Jin Hoo Ryou (40.4) and Reyes (40.3). In the women’s field, Kim’s 40.8 points in the finale bested the 38.5 and 37.9 registered by Jjaya Youn and Song Kyung Cho, respectively.

In the mixed intermediate bodyboard division, Hee Jun Hwang posted 30.1 points to finish ahead of Jin Ho Kim (25.9) and Gabriel Kim (23.7). In the beginners category, Je Damin was the top finisher after earning 26.8 points and he was followed by Gabriel Kim (26.4) and Saeem Reza (23.4).

For the grommets division (U11 age group) Je Damin was named the champion after scoring 26 points, way ahead of the 8 markers of Je Hwan Ryu.
