Man allegedly throws canned meat at wife, pushes her
A man allegedly came home drunk after gambling and broke several items in their house in Garapan and threw a can of luncheon meat at his wife early Monday morning.
The victim said it was not the first time that her husband, Patrick James D. Tudela, did it when drunk. She claimed that he also slapped her face, pulled her hair, and kicked her on the left leg last July 2017.
Tudela, 33, was arrested Monday by police officers for assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
At a hearing Tuesday, Superior Court Associate Judge Wesley Bogdan allowed Tudela to post a $100 cash bail and prohibited him consuming any alcoholic beverages, among other conditions.
Police detective Wally Emul Jr. stated in his report that a police officer responded to a barracks near Capitol Hotel in Garapan after receiving a call about a domestic violence in progress last Monday at 2:19am.
Emul said the officer met the victim, who was exposed to the rain with her 15-month-old son, standing by her neighbor’s house.
The victim said her husband, Tudela, chased her out, along with their son, and locked himself inside their house.
The victim told police that while she and their child were sleeping, Tudela came home at 1:30am and started shouting and broke items in the kitchen and living room.
The officer proceeded to the house, where he noticed things on the floor and that the house was a mess. The officer asked another officer to arrest Tudela.
Emul said that during his follow-up interview, the victim said that Tudela became upset last Sunday when she went to her parents’ house to make her son visit his grandmother.
Later that night, Tudela left their house to gamble. He came home Monday around 1:30am and allegedly started shouting and breaking items.
The wife said Tudela threw a can of Spam at her, hitting her stomach.
While she was holding their 15-month old child, Tudela allegedly pushed her, causing her to fall onto the bed. She said Tudela took the child and tossed him to the bed.
She took their son and ran to their neighbor’s house, where she called 911 for police’s help.
She said Tudela shouted profanities at her and told her that she’s only CW and that she should go back to the Philippines. CW stands for CNMI-Only Transitional Worker, a temporary working visa.
The wife said her husband is usually not like that when he is not drunk. (Ferdie de la Torre)
