Mawati rallies past IT&E Light

Mawati played better in the second half to top IT&E Light, 71-59, in the 2019 One Pacific Promotional Basketball League last Friday at the Civic Center Court.

Mawati fell behind by as much as 11 points in the first quarter, 27-16, and was still facing a deficit at the halftime break, 28-35, when it made its move in the third period to grab the upper hand. Mawati went on a 26-13 scoring surge in the penultimate frame for a 54-47 advantage.

Frank Ferrer led the way for Mawati in the third quarter with his 13 points, 9 of them were made from the 3-point area. Five of his teammates also contributed in the pivotal third to turn the table on IT&E Light.

IT&E Light never recovered from thereon, as only Henry Divinagracia made more than one field goal for the squad in the fourth period, while Mawati drew baskets from multiple players to keep the lead and complete the come-from-behind win.

Ferrer paced Mawati with his 24 points, while Arjay Nonato added 13. Divinagracia had 22 for IT&E Light.

Mawati notched its sixth win in eight games to join Connie’s BBQ and Pardz Ballers in second place in the team standings, while IT&E Light is still at No. 6 with its 4-3 record.

IT&E Light 59—Divinagracia 22, Santos 10, Madreo 10, Gotengco 10, Palacios 3, Jose 2, Caronan 2.

Scoring by quarters: 16-27, 28-35, 54-48. 71-59.
