Zoning closed on Sept. 20
The Saipan Zoning Office will be closed on Friday, Sept. 20, 2019, from 7:30am to 4:30pm for a professional development and training workshop for its staff. Regular office hours will resume on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, at 7:30am. (PR)
Kagman schools’ PTSA meeting today
The Kagman Unified Schools will be having a Parents Teachers Students Association meeting today, Sept. 17, 2019, starting at 5:30pm, at the Chacha Ocean View Middle School cafeteria. All parents and guardians are encouraged to attend this meeting. Child care will be provided. Water service interruption tomorrow
There will be a scheduled water service interruption on Capital Hill 1200 Block, 1300 Block, Wireless Ridge, Eggi Drive, Marshall Loop and for customers along Capital Hill Isa Drive to the Kagman Mobil gas station tomorrow, Sept. 18, from 8:30am to 3:30pm. Customers in the affected areas should expect restoration of water services soon after. This will allow Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s water operations personnel to perform repairs on a damaged main service lateral on Marshall Loop and Kwajelein Avenue on Capital Hill. Tickets now on sale for Club 200
The American Red Cross- Northern Mariana Islands Chapter will be hosting the Club 200 fundraiser on the evening of Oct. 12, at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan. The theme this year is Latin Nights.Door prizes will be up grabs. The grand prize is a 2019 Toyota RAV4. For the first time, pinatas will give party-goers a chance to capture other prizes. Tickets are on sale now for $100 each, $150 for VIP reserved seats and extra-caliente swag. Tickets are available at Joeten Stores, Red Cross board members or at the Chapter office near the airport. MHS Class of ’81 reunion meeting set
Attention to all members of the Marianas High School Class of 1981. There will be an important class reunion meeting on Sept. 26, 2019, starting at 6pm at the TechNic Gaming Center above Sherwin Williams and across Bank of Hawaii on Middle Road.
Guam CHamoru commission meetings set
The Kumisión i Fino’ CHamoru yan i Fina’nå’guen i Historia yan i Lina’la’ i Taotao Tåno’ (Commission on CHamoru Language and the Teaching of the History and Culture of the Indigenous People of Guam) will hold its September and October monthly meetings on Sept. 19, 2019, at the Department of Parks and Recreation conference room in Hagåtña, and on Sept. 26, 2019, at the Multi-Purpose Room at the Guam Museum in Hagåtña. The October meetings will be on Oct. 10 and 24, 2019, at the Department of Parks and Recreation conference room in Hagåtña. A work session is also scheduled for Oct. 17, 2019, at the DPR conference room. All work session and meetings are on Thursdays from 12:30pm to 3pm.

Call for nomination
The Northern Marianas Humanities Council is accepting nominations for the 2018 Governor’s Humanities Awards to recognize outstanding contributions to the humanities by individuals and organizations in the community.
Nominees should have a notable humanities achievement in the past year, as demonstrated in any of the following four categories:
– Research and Publication in the Humanities;
– Preservation of Traditional Cultural Practices;
– Preservation of CNMI History; and
– Outstanding Humanities Teacher (in both classroom and non-classroom settings).
A fifth category, Lifetime Achievement, recognizes significant contributions to the humanities over multiple decades. This award may be given posthumously.
Nomination forms and instructions are available at the council’s office in the Springs Plaza Building, Gualo Rai, or on the council website at www.nmhcouncil.org. Nominations may be made by any member of the public and are due no later than 4pm on Oct. 11, 2019.
Awards will be presented in a special ceremony in October as a part of CNMI Humanities Month (time, date and venue to be announced).

Military trainings set
The U.S. Navy will conduct open-ocean exercises within a 10-nautical-mile radius of the coordinates 13˚26’’N/145˚08’’E and 13˚42’’N/144˚36’’E during the following dates and times:
– From 6pm-10pm, Sept. 16
– From 2pm-7pm, Sept. 17
– From 6pm-11:55pm, Sept. 18
Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 will conduct training from 11am to 11:55pm, Sept. 16-19, at the Dandan-Malojloj training site in Inarajan.
HSC-25 will also conduct training from 8-11:55pm, Sept. 18, at Radio Barrigada.
Residents in surrounding areas should not be alarmed if they see or hear increased activity associated with the training. The public should be advised that routine helicopter training often accompanied with the use of blanks can occur during these trainings.
The Navy will conduct training at Warning Area 517 during the following dates and times:
– From noon to 7pm, Sept. 17 and Sept. 19
– From 3pm-6pm, Sept. 20
– From 10am to 4pm, Sept. 21
W-517 is activated south of latitude 12° 40’ 00”N. W-517 begins south of Guam and extends south-southwest in international waters. W-517 supports surface and aerial gunnery, missiles, and laser exercises. W-517 is contained within the following coordinates: 13° 10”N/144° 30”E, 13° 10”N/144° 42”E, 12° 50”N/144° 45”E, 11° 00”N/144° 45”E, 11° 00”N/143° 00”E, 11° 45”N/143° 00”E, and 12° 50”N/144° 30”E.
The U.S. Air Force will conduct training from 10am to 2pm, Sept. 18-19, at the island of Farallon de Medinilla. (PR)
