Cross Country season to kick off, rain or shine
Rain or shine, the 2019 All Schools Cross Country Championships Series 1 will be held this Saturday at the Saipan Country Club.
According to Nick Gross, Public School System’s Student Support Services Athletic Program director, the rain will not cause delay to the start of the cross country season.
“This year’s All Schools cross country season will kick off Saturday, Sept. 14, at 6:30am, Rain or shine,” he said.
Gross said registration will begin at 6am at the Saipan Country Club, located behind Saipan Vegas Resort next to McDonalds’ Middle Road. Students must submit a filled out parental waiver form prior to the event and for students interested in participating in the finals, they will need to compete in a minimum of three qualifying events.
Four qualifiers are scheduled before the finale. The second leg is set for Sept. 21 also at the Saipan Country Club. The third leg will move to Banzai Cliff Lookout, as requested by Saipan International School and it will be held on Sept 28. For the fourth qualifier on Oct. 5, runners will return to the Saipan Country Club. The championship will also take place at the Saipan Country Club on Oct. 18 at 4pm, while all qualifiers will begin at 6:30am.
Individual and team winners will be recognized in the finale of the series, which PSS is coordinating with the Northern Mariana Athletics.
“Special thanks to NMA for their unwavering support of Athletics opportunities for our community and to Saipan Country Club for the generosity of allowing us to avail of the golf course for this year’s cross country series,” said Gross.
