Easy win for Bears, Go See Mark
Defending champions Chalan Kanoa Bears and Go See Mark dominated their respective opponents in the 2019 Saipan Baseball League last Saturday at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.
The Bears eased past the Mariners, 9-2, while GSM crushed the Blue Jays, 15-1. The Bears are still on top of the team standings with their 8-1 record, while the Mariners fell to a 6-2 slate, just slightly ahead of GSM, which improved its mark to 6-3. The Blue Jays remained at fourth place with their 4-4 card. The Aces (0-10) and Rockies (0-10) complete the standings, but have been eliminated.
GSM needed only three and a half innings to rout the Blue Jays, as the former earned the victory via 10-run mercy rule after scoring 13 runs at the bottom of the third inning.
Eight batters on GSM’s top of the order reached home and five of them went at bat for the second time in the same inning and also scored, turning a 2-0 lead to a 15-0 advantage. Jimmy Demapan had two runs and three RBIs in the pivotal inning, while Franko Nakamura contributed two RBIs and one run.
Behind by double-digits, the Blue Jays must score at least six runs to extend the game. They made only one off a fielder’s choice, missing a chance to gain two more when GSM pitcher L.J. Sebaklim struck out Bren Cruz.
Sebaklim pitched in no relief, shutting down the Blue Jays in the first three innings and allowing only two hits while fanning eight batters.
In the other game last Saturday, the Bears recorded three runs each in the first and sixth inning to beat the Mariners.
