Tsingtao extends winning streak to seven

The Tsingtao Boyz defeated Max’s Restaurant, 83-78, during a makeup-game in the 2019 One Pacific Promotional Basketball League last Saturday at the Civic Center Court in Susupe.

Tsingtao prevailed in seesaw battle to stretch its winning streak to seven, while Max’s Restaurant fell to a 1-5 record.

Max’s Restaurant took the driver’s seat in the first quarter, leading at 30-21. Sonny Lerio led Max’s’ strong start after scoring 16 points, while Ogie Herrera added 7.

Tsingtao then turned the tide to its favor in the second quarter after making 25 points. Jet Jandoc and Mark Demonteverde teamed up in bringing Tsingtao back into the game after recording 9 points each. Their output more than doubled Max’s production (7 points), giving Tsingtao the lead at the break, 46-37.

The back-and-forth game resumed in the third quarter, as Max’s regained the upper hand, 65-64. Herrera, who was scoreless in the second period after making 7 in the opening canto, showed up in the penultimate frame and delivered 11 points to hand the lead back to Max’s Restaurant.

However, Max’s stay on top was short-lived, as Tsingtao regrouped in the fourth period to keep its perfect record in the 12-team league. Demonteverde, Jandoc, and Jerald Rivera lifted Tsingtao in the fourth quarter with the latter scoring all his 5 points in that period. Rivera’s 5 markers were made in succession, while Demonteverde hit a pair of free throws for Tsingtao’s last 2 points and plus his 7 earlier markers in the final canto, he ended up with a team-high 26. Jandoc contributed 5 points and finished the match with 21.

Lerio paced Max’s Restaurant with his 27 points, while Herrera chipped in 26.
