NMC welcomes back students
The Northern Marianas College welcomed its students to the As Terlaje campus last week with a series of events from Monday to Thursday and included a mini-carnival and student get-togethers.
The activities, initiated by NMC’s Office of Student Activities and the Associate Students of Northern Marianas College, kicked off with a “Breakfast with Proas” last Monday, Aug. 26; followed by “Coffee Connection” on Tuesday, Aug. 27; “Ice Keki & Popcorn” on Wednesday, Aug. 28; and an “NMC Mini Carnival” on Thursday, Aug. 29.
About 250 students attended Thursday’s carnival—the first time the college did such an event. An NMC student who attended the carnival was surprised with the huge crowd of students participating in the activities.
Another student was happy to move closer to his bachelor’s degree. He anticipates to graduate this upcoming spring 2020 semester and is excited to be one semester closer to achieving his goal.
NMC Board of Regents chair Charles Cepeda said it was great too see all the students show up to all the NMC’s activities and events, despite what has happened in the past year. Despite the destruction of Super Typhoon Yutu, he said it was great to see the students and staff back in action.
The new school year for NMC means another set of graduates who will begin their journey toward a degree, said NMC interim president Frankie Eliptico
Last Tuesday, Eliptico reported that NMC’s enrollment saw a 12% increase. He said the increased number is higher than the number of enrolled students in fall 2018, prior to Super Typhoon Yutu.
