‘NMC did not cancel any class or program’

Despite the governmentwide austerity measures, the Northern Marianas College was able to open its fall 2019 semester with all of its courses and classes.

In an interview with interim NMC president Frankie Eliptico, he said NMC offices have been observing austerity schedules, with offices being open only for four hours on Fridays and will be continuing to do so until further notice. He assured that this has no impact on NMC students, as it is only directed to NMC offices and there will still be classes on Fridays.

“We did not cancel any classes or programs,” he said.

Eliptico said that NMC believes this is what is best for its students and being able to keep its classes and programs for the fall semester is a sign of relief for NMC.

On Fridays, NMC offices will be open from 8am to 12pm until further notice. Instead of following the central government’s schedule of not observing office hours on “payless Fridays,” NMC decided to open every weekday and just split the eight-hour cut through half days.
