Promoting local products and supporting their development is what Marianas Creations Café is all about.
Owners Jay Wolfe and Elina Gharti Chhetri believe products from the Marianas are valuable and want these products to have greater visibility, patronage, and use.
“The Marianas has a lot of unique things to offer to our local population and tourists. We think that the products from the Marianas are valuable because of their origin and we want to bring the products into a bigger market,” Wolfe said.
“Marianas Creations is a platform for local producers. People who are making local products, and people who want to make products and introduce these products into the market. We are making a promise whether the product is food or drinks like coffee, liquor, or beer it will have an origin and only produced in the Marianas,” Wolfe added.
Currently, the local products on showcase at Marianas Creations are Saipan Noni products and Saipan Snaps cookies. They also serve coffee from Marianas Coffee, Coffee Slut Guam, liquor from Marianas Breeze, and beer from Saipan Brewing Company.
Chhetri said that they welcome more local products to be featured at Marianas Creations. “We are open to any type of products that are made in the Marianas by any producer who is in the Marianas… we are here to offer them space,” she said.
“Similar products are in other stores around Saipan are sold but these products are not necessarily locally made…. we think that is important that the consumer has trust that when they buy something from Marianas Creations, they know they are getting a local product,” she added
Aside from being a showroom, Marianas Creations is also a café and a mini pub. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They also have happy hour from 4pm to 6pm.
“We use locally grown ingredients in our food. For some dishes, we use locally and farm-raised meat like the quail bird and micro greens from Island Greens. Even our sauces are 100% made with local tomatoes and peppers,” Chhetri said.
“Our aim is to serve 100% local meal and this means that our food menu will change from time to time so that we can use different local products that are in season,” she added.
Marianas Creations is also the only café on Saipan that serves Nitrogen Coffee, which is trending in the wellness community because one still gets that sweet taste not from sugar but from the nitrogen foam and French Press if one wants to get a rich and earthy coffee flavor.
Their décor also adheres to using local materials. “Our décor, furniture, and fixtures are home-made and hand-made recycled pallet wood or up-cycled materials…we are also trying to be responsible with our environment footprint and trying to call out to the community that there are a lot of materials in the Marianas that can be re-used.” Wolfe said.
“We invite everyone to come in and check out all the things that you can do recycle and up-cycle so you can see how unique and nice it can actually be. We want to host workshops and hopefully get speakers to conduct workshops on how to use products that are already on Saipan,” he added.
