NMDC membership meeting tomorrow

The Northern Marianas Descent Corp. invites all members and interested parties to the corporation’s general membership meeting tomorrow, Aug. 27, at 6pm at the Carolinian Utt Pavillion in Garapan.

The agenda will include NMD Corp.’s mission and accomplishments and committee reports.

Military training at Farallon de Medinilla

ASAN, Guam—The U.S. Air Force will conduct training at the island of Farallon de Medinilla during the following dates and times:

Aug. 26: From 8:30am to 11:59pm
Aug. 27 and 29: From 12am to 12:30am and 10:30am to 2:30pm.
Aug. 28: From 10:30am to 2:30pm and 8:30pm to 11:59pm
Aug. 30: From 8:30pm to 11:59pm
Aug. 31: From 12am to 12:30am

This training supports aircrew combat readiness and is critical to developing the skills needed to respond to operational missions throughout the region to ensure a stable, free, and open Indo-Pacific.

The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be within a 12-nautical-mile radius of the island.

It is recommended the public, fishermen, and marine tour operators monitor the Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories. (PR)

More Guam tax refunds out

HAGATÑA, Guam—The Guam government’s Department of Revenue and Taxation and Department of Administration will mail today, Aug. 26, 944 tax refund checks totaling approximately $2.6 million, including refunds garnished to repay government debts, for error-free returns filed on or before Feb. 18, 2019.

Club 200 theme is Latin Nights

The 30th American Red Cross Club 200 fundraising dinner is scheduled for Oct. 12, a Saturday, at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan. This year’s theme will be “Latin Nights” and feature décor, dancing, costumes and food from throughout Latin America. There will be salsa dancing and costume contests, piñata special prizes, and lots of door prizes. Support the Red Cross humanitarian work by purchasing tickets. Tickets are $100 each or $150 for VIP and available from ticket sellers or by calling the Red Cross office at 234-3459. (PR)

School orientation at DMS

Dandan Middle School is inviting all students, parents, and guardians to attend the back-to-school orientation on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019.
6thGrade:  1:30pm–2:30pm
7thGrade:  2:30pm–3:30pm
8thGrade:  3:30pm–4:30pm 
The initial gathering will be held in the school’s cafeteria.  Soon after, students who have registered will receive their class schedules and meet the grade level team. The school team will discuss the rules of the school, share expectations, middle school grading policy, and other matters.  
Classes will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 8:30am–3:30pm. (PR)
