The Saipan Mayor’s Office will be hosting a farewell party tonight at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan’s poolside for a group of visitors from Japan. The party for the visiting students will begin a 6:30pm.

The visitors are from the Kokusai Seishonen Kenshu Kyokai or the International Youth Association of Japan. The group arrived on Saipan last Aug. 17 and will be leaving this Friday.

The KSKK group consists of nine students (ranging from ages 11 to 13) and a chaperone, and they are from Oita City in the Kyushu Prefecture. This trip marks the group’s 40th annual visit to Saipan; they will celebrate the group’s anniversary this December.

Five Saipan families played host to the visitors. The group spent the entirety of their trip touring Saipan and enjoying the sights and activities around the island.

The group visited Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang yesterday and were joined by the chairman and vice chairman of Nodayama Kindergarten, the school where the children graduated from; the children are now in middle school.

Nodayama Kindergarten chair Toshima Andou and vice chair Shizuka Gotou showed up unannounced at the mayor’s office yesterday to surprise the children.

For more information about tonight’s party, contact student exchange program coordinator Yuki Kishimoto at (670) 234-6208 or email her at ykishimoto@mos.gov.mp.
