Saipan lad graduates with honors from Boise State
Matthew Owen Deleon Guerrero graduated with honors from Boise State University on Dec. 16, 2011, with a bachelor of science degree in International Relations and Geospatial Information Analysis.
During his time at Boise State University, Matthew was actively involved in the campus community. He served as president of the Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society, was a founding member and philanthropy coordinator of Delta Upsilon International Fraternity, a founding member of the Global Affairs Association, and held leadership roles in the Boise State College Democrats and Political Science Association, among other organizations and activities.
Matthew was also very active in the off-campus community. He served as grants coordinator for Idaho Rep. Walt Minnick, field coordinator for the Idaho Victory Campaign, a Coral Reef Initiative intern with the CNMI Division of Environmental Quality, and participated in the Presidential Inaugural Conference and the International Scholar Laureate Program in China. Additionally, Matthew is an active volunteer with the International Rescue Committee where he tutors young refugee families and organized several large donation drives that gathered furniture and household goods from the Boise community and brought them to refugee households in need.
After graduation, Matthew is scheduled to participate in an internship with the Washington D.C. office of CNMI Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan prior to attending graduate school in the fall of 2012. Matthew previously served as speaker of the 9th CNMI Youth Congress. He graduated in 2007 from Mount Carmel High School and is the son of Edward C. and Eve O. Deleon Guerrero of Koblerville. (PR)
