TOC winners get spots in Guam tourney

The first place winners in all eight flights in the 24th Governor’s Tournament of Champions will gain entry to the 17th Annual Tourism Cup Championship Golf Tournament in Guam.
Ben Babauta, tournament chair of TOC, said they will pay for the entry fees of the winning golfers in the Tourism Cup, which will be held in November this year. If the flight champion can’t make it to the Guam tournament, the runner-up could take the spot, while the third place may also compete if the Top 2 players decide not to join the off-island competition.
Henry Liang won the A Flight, while Ned Norita and Freddy Salavaria were the second and third placers. Joel Hocog was the B Flight first finisher and was followed by Alex Sablan and Edward Tenorio, while Surong Kim, J.J. Concepcion, and Patrick George were the Top 3 finishers in C Flight.
Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho led the winners in Seniors, beating John Lee and Daryl Poe, while Nick Sablan topped the Super Seniors, edging Victor Borja and Tony Satur. Chang Hee Yoo and Mio Kim were the champions in the Ladies Low Gross and Net divisions of the tournament held over the weekend at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort. Guam’s Louie Sunga joined the winners list after ruling the Championship Flight, defeating Saipan golfers Ryan Kim, J.J. Atalig, Fen Chun, and Franco Santos.
Meanwhile, Babauta and DFS Saipan vice president for store operations Milan Rabold, who joined Gov. Ralph DLG Torres in presenting awards to the flight winners, thanked all the players, sponsors, and volunteers of this year’s TOC and for supporting the event’s causes. Part of the proceeds from the competition will be used for beautification projects on Saipan and the recovery efforts from Super Typhoon Yutu.
