The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has three grants for 38 Commonwealth Utilities Corp. Stipulated Order No. 1 projects, with total funding amount of $36,270,224, according to CUC last week.

The court-mandated SO1 focuses on drinking water and wastewater and the restructuring of CUC’s organization.

CUC, through deputy attorney general Lillian Ada Tenorio, informed the U.S. District Court for the NMI that, as of June 30, 2019, the total balance funding is $31,209,393.

In CUC’s status report, Tenorio said that, as of July 31, 2019, seven of those projects have been completed, while the remaining are under construction, in design phase, or undergoing procurement processing.

She disclosed that CUC has also one active grant coming from the U.S. Department of Commerce/Economic Development Administration for the sum of $1,579,292 for the Lower Base Sewer Phase 1-Lift Stations and Forcemain project. Tenorio said a construction contract has already been awarded.

She said the U.S. Department of the Interior/Office of Insular Affairs has an additional grant funding of $450,000 for the Kagman Booster Station Renovation and $212,824 for the Lower Base Sewer Phase 1-Lift Stations and Forcemain project.

Tenorio added that the total appropriated funds from several local appropriation laws is $1,697,241, including the additional funding of $313,600 for the Lower Base Sewer Phase I-Lift Stations and Forcemain project.
