Seas remain hazardous

The CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency reports that Tropical Storm Krosa continues its path away from the Marianas and, while showers continue to diminish, waters remain hazardous.
At about 2pm yesterday, Tropical Storm Krosa was located about 665 miles northwest of Agrihan, 700 miles northwest of Pagan, 725 miles northwest of Alamagan, and 850 miles northwest of Saipan.
Monsoon rain bands are beginning to lift farther north but the Northern Islands will still see a few more waves of heavy rain and thunderstorms through today before drier weather returns.
Latest data show that seas have decreased slightly to between 15 and 20 feet while wave models show seas falling to between 10 and 15 feet today and below 10 feet by Wednesday night.
Dangerous surf will continue to batter south-, west-, and north-facing reefs in the Marianas through today before finally beginning to subside the remainder of the week.
Due to the threat, HSEM is advising everyone to stay away from reefs and shorelines and interisland travel by boat should be avoided until midweek when seas and winds begin to subside.
Krosa maintains maximum sustained winds of 65 mph and was seen moving west-northwest at 9mph. Krosa is steadily moving away from the Marianas and heading toward Japan.
Fresh to occasionally strong southwest to south winds remain across the Northern Islands and will be accompanied by stronger gusts of 30 to 35 mph as heavy showers pass over the islands.
Residents of Alamagan, Pagan, and Agrihan are being advised to monitor the situation closely and maintain necessary precautionary measures for possible gusty winds and heavy rain and to also stay informed on the latest statements or advisories.
