NMI Humanities, VETOGA host yoga sessions
The NMI Humanities Council, in collaboration with VETOGA’s Tom Voss, hosted yoga classes for two weeks on Saipan and ended the sessions last Saturday at the Northern Marianas College. This first-ever set of classes were open to veterans, first responders, and their families.
According to Voss, the turnout has been great, he enjoyed the hospitality shown in welcoming him to the islands, and participants were really motivated throughout each class.
Voss’ classes are usually capped at a certain number due to limited space. The class follows Dharma Yoga traditions, with classes about 75 minutes long.
The locations of the classes changed; the first week saw classes at the Kagman Community Center and the next week saw classes at the Sister Remedios Community Center and the Northern Marianas College.
With the possibility of certifying individuals to become yoga instructors a priority, Voss said that he and the Humanities Council will be working on getting a handful of individuals to obtain VETOGA certification and be able to conduct yoga classes. He hopes that the certification process can begin in 2020.
Voss is currently on Tinian until Wednesday to conduct yoga class, and will be hosting more in Rota on Thursday. He said that he will also be representing VETOGA in Guam later.
VETOGA is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide yoga, meditation, and healing arts to military, veterans, their families, and communities.
