The Department of Public Works has broken ground for the $2,907,133.14 coastal road project on Rota, which connects the island’s airport to the villages of Sinapalo and Songsong.
“A common route for the people of Rota, this 9.5 miles of road project from the airport to the villages will eliminate the hazards and provide for safer travels,” said Public Works Secretary James Ada at the groundbreaking ceremony.
Rota Mayor Efraim M. Atalig said the project connects villages but also leads to many tourist destinations that would benefit the tourism economy.
Acting governor Arnold I. Palacios added that this project is a great improvement to an important road for the people of Rota.
“Route 10 will ensure safety, comfort, and convenience from Songsong to Sinapalo and an overall investment into the infrastructure of Rota,” he said.
The project, which is slated for completion in 2020, is funded by the Federal Highway Administration. The project links to other existing routes on Rota, making a circumferential link around the island.
The project consists of eliminating hazards along Route 10 for approximately 9.5 miles from the airport intersection to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. power plant where the pavement ends. The scope of work involves road repair, anti-skid overlay on curves, installation of guardrails, traffic signs, and road pavement markers. (PR)
