Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang welcomed yesterday a group of students from Korea, who is visiting the CNMI for about a month.

The group, called The WOW English Camp of Costa World Tour, will be helping with a beach cleanup next week at the Sugar Dock beach. The cleanup was scheduled this week but the rainy weather forced to group to move it to next week.

The group consists of seven elementary students, three parents, and one teacher from Suwon-Si city in the Gyeonggi province in South Korea.

Apatang presented the students with certificates and gifts to thank them in advance of their beach cleanup. The students were also given the opportunity to ask Apatang questions about his background and being the mayor of Saipan.

The group is led by Yeontae Choi, who is a longtime resident of Saipan. He said this is the group’s first visit and this week marks their second week on Saipan; the group will be on island for another two weeks.

Choi said the students will be taught how to write and speak English, and they will go sightseeing throughout the islands.

Apatang thanked the WOW English Camp and Choi for helping out by cleaning up the islands and hopes that they can bring more students on the next trip.

Choi said that he helps the Costa World Tour by bringing students from Korea over every summer and winter.
