Here’s your chance to adopt a cat for free this month.

The non-profit organization Saipan Cares for Animals is offering free cat adoptions for the month of August. This is the second time that Saipan Cares for Animals is making this offer available.

SCA president Beth Pliscou said the group’s current mission is to lower the stray population in the CNMI, as the islands have been seeing an overpopulation of animals and the group can only take in a certain number. There are no limits on how many cats a person can adopt, and the adoption fee that is $30 is waived for the entire month of August.

These cats and kittens at Saipan Cares for Animals were taken in because of an injury or sickness that their clinic can help take care of. The group took in a lot of animals after Super Typhoon Yutu.

There are also kittens up for adoption for $75 but this charge goes to spaying/neutering the kitten when it is old enough.

The adult cats that are up for adoption are already spayed or neutered and have already been vaccinated for the first year. Pliscou estimates that a total of over 50 cats and kittens are up for adoption.

The group held its first-ever free cat adoption last October and Pliscou said it was a major success, as there were so many people who came and adopted cats, and she hopes the same could happen for this month.

Their clinic is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 12pm to 3pm. The clinic is located in Koblerville, near the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport. If in doubt about the location, use Google Maps to find SCA.

Pliscou thanked the community for their support and said that they are open to anyone who would like to help them out and volunteer at clinic. She also said that she would like to host a free dog adoption in the upcoming months.
