Northern Marianas Athletics general secretary Robin Sapong will be awarded with an International Association of Athletics Federations Veteran Pin in the 52nd IAAF Congress at the Qatar National Convention Center in Doha next month.
Sapong has been nominated for the recognition by Oceania Athletics Association and got the IAAF nod for his meritorious service in the sport for more than two decades.
“I am honored to receive this recognition and would like to share it with my NMA family, our supporters and sponsors, the Oceania Athletics Association, the Northern Marianas Sports Association, the athletes and coaches, and of course, my family. It is easier to stay in the program and do volunteer work if you continue to get support from the people around you,” said Sapong.
The NMA official will join athletes, officials, and other people involved in athletics around the world in the awards ceremony during the kick-off of the IAAF Congress on Sept. 24.
“On behalf of the Northern Marianas Athletics board of directors, I am proud to express our sincerest congratulations and thank you to our Oceania Area Athletics Association nominee, NMA general secretary Robin Sapong, for receiving this prestigious award. He certainly deserves it,” NMA president Ramon Tebuteb said.
Besides joining other awardees in Doha, Sapong will also represent NMA in the IAAF Congress and will coach her daughter and CNMI sprinter, Zarinae, in the 100m qualifying run in the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships at the Khalifa International Stadium.
