The Senate Executive Appointments and Government Investigation Committee is now reviewing the nomination of Carmelita Faisao, who has been named to the Northern Marianas Technical Institute’s board of trustees to represent women and Carolinians.

The committee, led by Sen. Francisco Cruz (R-Tinian), reviewed Faisao’s nomination yesterday and, according to Cruz, his committee found no reason to deny her nomination as yet.

“She is very committed. I believe we need people that know what they are doing. We don’t only base decisions on their résumé, but also on their commitment,” he said in an interview.

“…I cannot say now that everything is okay,” he said, emphasizing that changes can be made at the last minute.

In a separate interview with Saipan Tribune, Faisao said this may be her first time to be nominated to the NMTI board but she looks forward to supporting local businesses.

“I am looking forward to collaborating more with all the businesses out there, making sure we have jobs for our [students] after training,” she said.

Faisao is a project and operations manager at DFS T Galleria in Garapan.

A statement on the Office of the Governor’s social media page noted that Faisao possesses “the diligence and work ethic to promote NMTI and boasts a very diverse background in community service and cultural arts.”

“The [Torres] administration believes that…[Faisao possesses] the skills and temperament to build our workforce capacity and expresses its full confidence in their ability to serve,” the social media page further said.
