Humanities Council hosts yoga sessions, movie night tomorrow
The NMI Humanities Council, in collaboration with TanHoldings, We Will Never Forget: Field of Heroes, and VETOGA, is hosting a series of Stress Management Classes and movie premieres starting tomorrow, July 30.
VETOGA representative Tom Voss will be hosting the group’s stress management classes which involves the use of yoga. Voss will be conducting classes on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.
This week, Voss will be on Saipan and classes from tomorrow until this Saturday will be at the Kagman Community Center at 7am. There will also be a 5pm class beginning this Wednesday.
Voss will be holding classes at the Sister Remedios Community Center next Monday and Tuesday, and will be observing the same times, with the exception of Tuesday as there will only be a 7am class.
From Aug. 7 to Aug. 10, classes will be held at the Northern Marianas College and he will hold the two classes at 7am and 5pm.
From Aug. 12 to Aug. 17, Voss will then conduct classes on Tinian and Rota.
VETOGA is a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C. whose mission is to provide yoga, meditation, and healing arts to military, veterans, their families, and communities.
In the Dharma Yoga tradition, the class will be a flow series of postures, incorporating breath work, a guided relaxation, yoga nidra, and meditation. This class is suitable for beginners and all levels, and participants will leave classes feeling relaxed and refreshed; classes will last 75 minutes each and are limited to 15 to 20 participants on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The council and Voss will also be hosting a movie screening tomorrow at the American Memorial Park’s Visitor Center Theatre at 5pm. A separate screening will be held next Tuesday, Aug. 6 at the same venue and time.
There will be screenings on Tinian and Rota, with Tinian seeing the film on Aug. 12 at 6:30pm at the Kammer Beach and Rota at 5pm at Tiana’s Restaurant in Hotel Valentino.
The movie, the Emmy-nominated Almost Sunrise, features Voss’ struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD.
