Two cars collide on Middle Road

A two-car collision occurred in Gualo Rai late yesterday afternoon during rush hour. There were no fatalities as both drivers exited their vehicles unscathed.

At around 5:09pm, a black Toyota pickup collided with a gray Nissan Sentra near the Shell gas station along Middle Road, sending the latter spinning uncontrollably.

The driver directly behind the Nissan Sentra nearly collided with the Nissan Sentra because the driver slammed on the breaks, causing the car to skid as the road was wet from a recent rain.

Police were called immediately and they arrived at the scene at about 5:15pm. By 5:30pm, both cars were cleared from the area and no one appeared to have been injured.

The Department of Public Safety has yet to issue a report on the accident.

The Nissan Sentra was heading south on the inner lane of Middle Road, while the Toyota pickup was exiting from First Hawaiian Bank into Middle Road and was also headed south.

The Toyota pickup that was exiting from the First Hawaiian Bank Middle Road into Middle Road inner lane did not anticipate the speed of the incoming Nissan Sentra. The Toyota pickup ran straight into the Nissan Sentra’s driver side and sent the car spinning twice before it landed on the outer side of the opposite lane.

The cars behind were brought to a sudden stop but, because of the wet road, the car directly behind slid but was able to stop before colliding with the Sentra.

An individual walking along Middle Road walked over to the cars to check on the passengers of the vehicles.
